Skin Care 101

Don't have time or money to spend on exfoliating scrubs, toners and anti-aging remedies to keep your skin looking radiant and young? Fear not as despite all of the hype around skin care products, 3-step systems and treatments, simple healthy lifestyle choices can help delay the aging process while preventing many skin problems. Here are the five basics for keeping your skin in check.

#1 ALWAYS Guard Against The Sun's Harmful UV Rays
The most critical way to keep your skin healthy and with a youthful appearance is to protect it from the sun. SPF exposure can cause freckles, wrinkles, age spots and rough, dry skin not to mention life-threatening problems, like skin cancer.
For the best protection against the sun try to follow the following advice:
Avoid the sun when UV rays are the harshest, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Wear protective clothing. Hats, sunglasses,
Use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 when you're in the sun and make sure to always apply 30 minutes before sun exposure.

#2 You Don't Have To Smoke to be Smokin'....DO NOT SMOKE!
Smoking can significantly age the skin and contributes to wrinkles. Smoking narrows the blood vessels in the outer-most layers of skin, which slows down blood flow, depleting the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are critical to skin health. Smoking also damages collagen and elastin — fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity.

#3 Avoid Wear And Tear...
Try not to shave or exfoliate every single day.
Try not to expose skin to water which can be drying for excessive amounts of time. Limit your bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water. Avoid astringent or irritating soaps. Some soaps can can actually strip skin of natural oils. Stick with cleansers that are mild, moisturizing and/or gentle. Always lubricate skin before shaving. Make sure your razor is not dull. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not against it.
Moisturize skin. Try to get in the habit of using a moisturizer with SPF.

#4 Hydrate
With a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. Really does make a difference in the appearance of skin.
